In October the PhD students of the Global Food Venture Programme had their 10-day intensive workshop in San Francisco and visited the Silicon Valley to learn more on team building, legal issues and finance.
This region is not only famous on its Start-up ecosystem giving birth to companies such as Uber, Apple, Twitter and Facebook, but is also a large agricultural area producing wine, olive oil, fruit and nuts.
This workshop was a great opportunity to get in touch with many companies of the innovation ecosystem. The schedule was rich in speaker from key-companies in the food system.
Many meetings within the local ecosystem with entrepreneurs and companies of food related incubators took place, including the large company Bayer, HM Clause Food incubator, and the Robert Mondavi Center (sustainable wine production).
The group was lucky to be hosted by the International Center of UC Davis, the top ranked agricultural university of the world.
They had a pitch session at UC Davis to prepare for the final pitch event of the programme that will take place on 28th November in Paris at the EIT Food Venture Summit.
